What is BuiltGreen™ ?
Built Green™ is a national voluntary program open to all members of participating home builder associations across Canada. The voluntary program is owned and managed by the Built Green™ Society of Canada that uses buyer demand, market education and builder training to encourage builders to build homes that have better:
• Energy Efficiency
• Indoor Air Quality
• Resource Use (including Waste Management)
• Overall Environmental Impact
Built Green™ is a certification program for participating builders to register their finest homes for recognition. The Built Green™ program, operated by the Built Green™ Society, is modeled on Natural Resources Canada’s R-2000 and EnerGuide for New House programs. There are four levels of achievement - bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Each indicate different levels of energy efficiency, and all are independently tested to ensure they meet the Built Green™ standards. All levels make a statement demonstrating how the builders care about preserving, protecting, enhancing and sustaining the environment.
The Sterling Group of Companies is a Built Green™ Certified Builder member and is able to register your new Sterling Home or Pacesetter Home.
Please visit the Built Green™ web site www.builtgreencanada.ca for further program information and contact a Sterling Group show home representative for further new home benefits.

Drake Landing Solar Community
The Sterling Group of Companies is dedicated to responsible environmental stewardship. Sterling Homes is the proud recipient of the Emerald Award for “Climate Change” and pioneer of Drake Landing Solar Community in Okotoks, Alberta. This is the first of its kind in North America and the first in the world to aspire to provide 90% of each homes space heating with solar energy. As a true example of how solar energy can be harnessed successfully, Sterling Homes proudly announces the first anniversary of the fully functional Drake Landing Solar Community was on June 21, 2008. Combining space heating and domestic water heating, this community is now on its way saving 82% of the green house gas (GHG) emissions that instead would have been produced, from natural gas usage.
Sterling Homes used a combination of proven and new technology to achieve environmental savings. This community is a collection of 52 Built Green “Gold” and R2000 certified homes. In this innovative housing development, homes are built without the normal natural gas-fired furnaces. Instead, the clean and renewable energy of the sun is utilized to heat the homes. These homes are heated by centralized district distribution utilizing a unique system of 800 solar thermal collectors and bore hole thermal energy storage technology. All homes in the community have individual solar domestic hot water (SDHW) systems providing 60% of the energy required for domestic hot water.
